Welcome to Early Years at St Mary and St John Catholic Primary School
Mrs Woods is the class teacher and Mrs Rigby is the class teaching assistant.
We hope you find the following information useful, please pop in to school any time if you have any questions.
Here are a few details about our class:
Autumn
To begin the Autumn term, our topic is 'Marvellous Me'. This allows us to get to know the children and supports them with settling in to school. The children love to share their likes, dislikes and opinions while also getting to know school staff a little better! The specific details may change according to the children's interests.
Autumn 2
Our topic for Autumn 2 is ‘Tremendous Toys’. The exciting build up to Christmas allows us to link lots of learning opportunities with the children’s interests and passions.
Spring
We will be using our new topic 'Food Glorious Food' to introduce a variety of food related learning. Guided by the children's interests we will learn about healthy diets, healthy bodies, how food is produced and we will especially enjoy investigating and discussing lots of tasty foods! This will be linked to a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.
Summer
Our Spring 'Food' topic often leads to questions from the children regarding how different foods are grown. We held a 'child initiated planning session' where the children asked a variety of questions regarding the growth of foods and linked these enquiries to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. and then tied in the learning outcomes for Reception. Reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ will then lead us into investigating mini- beasts; which is often a fascination of young children and provides lots of opportunities for learning.
