Headteacher's Welcome

Mr T Atherton

Head Teacher

Dear parents, pupils and readers,

I am privileged to welcome you to St Mary and St John Catholic Primary School.

Our website is here to give you a little glimpse of what our school is like, as well as to share updates and useful information for both families and pupils. We hope you’ll enjoy looking through it and find it helpful.

Our school is part of the Catholic communities of St Mary’s and St John’s—now called St William’s Parish—within the Archdiocese of Liverpool and Wigan Local Authority. We are a one-form entry school with 210 wonderful children. On behalf of all our pupils, staff and families, I can honestly say how proud we are of our school.

We are very fortunate to have been recognised as outstanding by both Ofsted (March 2023) and the Liverpool Archdiocese Schools Department (September 2019).

Our aim is always to help every child achieve their very best. We are delighted that our pupils consistently perform so well in national assessments at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

But for us, success is about much more than results. We work hard to make sure every child feels valued and supported in a caring Catholic environment, where their personal growth, happiness, and achievements are celebrated.

We’re proud of the warm and welcoming atmosphere here, and of the strong relationships we build with our families.

Our mission statement sums up who we are and what we believe in:

“In the Light of Jesus, We Learn to Shine.”

I hope that you find the information on our website useful, giving you an insight into the life and work of our school.
