Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to our Year 5 class page. We hope you find everything you need, but if not, do feel free to send a message on Class Dojo.

Year 5 is a really hard working, fun class to be in. We enjoy a wide range of exciting activities, which celebrate the many gifts, talents and interests of the children in class. We strive to do our best at all times, no matter what the challenge is.

Mrs Hitchen and Mrs Woods are the class teachers, Mrs Unsworth is our fabulous teaching assistant working with us throughout the week.

Mrs Hurst teaches us our music on Tuesday afternoon, Ms Hynes teaches us our Modern Foreign Languages on Wednesday afternoon, and Mr Perkins teaches us PE on a Thursday morning.

Mrs Hitchen teaches in Year 5 every Monday, Thursday and Friday, Mrs Woods teaches in Year 5 on Tuesday and Wednesday, whilst Mrs Hitchen works in the office with Mrs Vose.

Mrs Hitchen and Mrs Woods have lots of opportunities to talk about the work taking place in class during the week so that they both have a clear view of how the children are progressing.

Spellings are sent home on a Tuesday and should be practised on a daily basis, ready for our spelling test the next Tuesday. There will also be a weekly multiplication test on a Friday.

Each week, children need to have completed at least three Reading Plus activities before Monday. We also encourage children to read at home from a book for their own pleasure and enjoyment. This can then be signed, by a parent or guardian, in the child's diary and will be rewarded with dojos!

Children should also aim to have scored at least 500 points on Mathletics, which can be achieved through either assigned activities or through tasks the children have chosen themselves.

PE lessons are on a Monday and Thursday and the children are developing a variety of skills with a PE and dance specialist.  Please make sure your child comes into school wearing their PE kit and has a full water bottle.
