Welcome to our Year 2 class page. Mr Noy is our teacher and our fantastic Teaching Assistants are Mrs. Crook and Mrs Monaghan! We are also very lucky to have a music lesson each week taught by Mrs Hurst and an R.E. lesson taught by Mr. Hurst!
This page will be updated regularly with information about what we have been focusing on in class and you can find out more about the Year 2 curriculum by clicking the links below or using the suggested websites.
Here in Year 2 we do P.E. once a week on Thursday afternoons so we always need to make sure that we have our P.E. kits in school! Our focus for this half-term is Gymnastics!
Our homework in year 2 is given out on Fridays and is always due in on Wednesdays. We need to remember to take it out of our book-bags and put it in the homework tray ourselves now that we are the oldest in the infants!
Spellings.
Phase appropriate spellings will be given out every Friday so that we have a full week to learn them for our Friday spelling show off! Sheets will be given for you to practise spelling your words on but these are yours to keep practicing with!
Phonics: We are working on Phase 6 Letters and Sounds in our different groups. If you would like more information or even some games to practise, visit the Letters and Sounds website or Phonics Play.
Reading: We read lots of different books from a range of reading schemes including Floppy's Phonics, Project X and Snapdragons. Year 2 change their books independently as often as they need and also get to choose a book from the school library each week. We love to share books by different authors in "Snuggle Up With a Book". We also need to read a miniumum of three times a week at home to make sure we get lots of practice!
Topic: Our theme in the in this Spring term is 'Heroes/ Traditional Tales' . we will be looking at lots of different stories such as Puss in boots, Hansel and Gretal, the Three Billy Goats Gruff and Rumplestilkskin. We will then be creating our own exciting tales that will wow the reader.
R.E.: Our topic over the next few weeks is "Thanksgiving". We will think all of the special things that people in our lives do for us and the ways that we can thank them, and the ways in with the parish family show their thanks to God for Jesus!
